Workshops with Sue Roddis
We have the dates now for the workshops with Sue Roddis. They are the last weekend in August – Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th.
Both are full day workshops and are priced at £35per person per day. This includes all materials and unlimited drinks during the day. Lunch is not included but this can be reserved at the coffee shop next door or there are plenty of pubs and restaurants in the village for you to try.
What will you be making on Saturday
I want to keep the actual projects a bit of a surprise for you for the day, so the snippet below gives you just a flavour of the project which is a faux metal book .

The project is made with foil rather than metal and the picture only shows one page – your book will have several pages. You will also be using different Paper Artsy stamps with the foil, inks, and other goodies. There is flexibility and on the day you can choose alternative stamps and either go with the colours of Sue’s revised project sample or choose your own colour scheme.
What will you be making on Sunday
On Sunday the project involves one of our wooden desk calendars. Below is a previous version that Sue has done. This is just to tease you because again you will be making a different version on the day!
From this
to this
You can only book by ringing us on 01342 836398 and places are limited so if you are interested you do need to get in touch,
Happy crafting!

Welcome
I am really excited to be able to welcome Sue Roddis to our team. Her projects went down really well at the extravaganza and her quirky and off the wall way of looking at things certainly adds a different dimension to our existing wonderful team who work so hard for us. Sue will be part of our design team and will also be teaching workshops for us
This wonderful piano hinge book is one of her recent projects, you can see it in full with lots of other things on her blog, http://sroddis.blogspot.com/

workshop news
Also we can confirm the dates for Sue’s promised workshops. She will be with us for the last weekend in August (29th and 30th) doing workshops both days. I will be sending more details including snippets of projects to the people on our mailing list on Thursday, with details going on the blog on Saturday. These will be all day workshops and with a limit of 12 places for each, we do expect places to go fast so if you have not contacted me to register your interest this would be a good time to do it . You can reach me on sandy@thecraftbarn.com.
see you soon

Thought I’d show you this project which was made in a recent afternoon workshop with Carol Staples. It is called an inspiration box and started life as a plain cardboard box that we got in a delivery, can’t even remember what was in it.
Carol used Tattered Angels Glimmer mists to colour the box . She chose juneberry wine, denim blue, olive vine, yellow daisy and then spritzed all over with iridescent gold. She cut a strip of BasicGrey Marrakech papers which she inked the edges of using a Nick Bantock ink pad. This was then attached to go right around the box. The glimmer mists give the box a shimmer and the gold makes it look really quite substantial. It’s hard to get the full effect from a photo
For the lid Carol used a panel of white stamping card cut slightly smaller than the lid itself. She created an offset grid by masking off sections then spraying with Glimmer mists . She used midnight blue, yellow daisy, denim blue, tattered rose , kiwi and oriental poppy, she then used Nick Bantock ink pads to blur the edges of the grid. The central panel was created using the Kadoodle frilly flowers stamps and the other grid sections were stamped using Katzelkraft trees.
For the insside you can put anything you want to but one idea is to create sections using index cards. Why not try colour, sketch, technique and theme . Write down some random ideas/layouts for the relevant sections and if you run out of ideas, and let’s face it we all do from time to time, you can dip into your inspiration box to get started again.
Thanks for visiting,
Sandy

We have been doing group days for a while now and last week we had the pleasure of a groups of crafters who know each other through the UK Stampers forum.
Here they are in our studio busy working on their afternoon project with Jane Collman which was an altered clock. There are more pictures of the project further down.
In the morning they turned some plain old Match boxes into works of art using metals, dabbers and some help from Carole Cann . The boxes all turned out different and I have attached a couple of the finished items below for you to look at -

These are the before and after pictures for the altered clock

Just shows even the simplest of items can be tuyrned into something special with a bit of work! The altered items make great presents, assuming you can bear to part with them!
If you are a group of crafty friends who would like a special day at The Craft Barn we can tailor workshops to products and techniques you are interested in. Simply give me a ring or drop me an email
Thanks for visiting, see you soon

Metal is the “new black” … you see metal everywhere and the Metal classes at the Craft Barn are very popular.
Here’ s a sample made by Carole Cann for a class using the ten-seconds-studio metal and tools

The class lists for November and December are now available on the website. We know that the current economic climate is affecting lots of people so as our way of trying to help out we have reduced the cost of classes for November and December by 25% . Also we have for the first time given a difficulty rating to the classes, to help you select classes which are right for you and, because we know that time is short coming up to Christmas, we have included “quick make” classes so that you can stockpile a few staple cards for emergencies!
Other news: Julie Hickey is with us on Thursday 30th October from 4pm to 8:30pm demonstrating the Craftwork Cards collection. This is a free event open to everyone so it would be great to see you.
Another date for your diary is 29th November when we will be having a Christmas Craft Fest. We’ll have at least 4 demonstrators in the shop all day including Paul from Go Kreate. Come and join us in the shop for mince pies and a glass of Pimms Winter Warmer or non-alcoholic Hot Fruit Punch. We’ll give you lots of ideas for presents for yourself or others. It’s a perfect opportunity to write your wish list which we’ll keep in the shop or email to agreed family and friends for them to pick from. It’s also a great excuse to treat yourself because we’re giving double loyalty stamps on items featured in the demos on the day.
December 5th is Lingfield evening and we will be staying open for the event for the first time in a number of years to, so why not come down to the village and join in the fun.
